Frequently asked questions

Can I extend my visa-free stay?
Yes. Visit your local Exit-Entry Administration Bureau before your visa-free period expires. Extensions are typically granted for an additional 30 days. Bring your passport, a passport photo, and your hotel registration. The muShanghai team can point you to the nearest office.
I have a US/UK passport — can I stay the full month?
The 240-hour transit visa only covers 10 days. For the full 28-day muShanghai program (May 10 – June 6), you need an L-visa (tourist visa). The muShanghai team provides invitation letters to support your application. Apply at your nearest Chinese embassy — processing takes 4-5 business days.
I'm Indian — will the port-of-entry visa definitely work?
Port-of-entry visas (口岸签证) have been successfully arranged for Indian nationals attending muShanghai. The process is handled by the organizer team. Apply early — at least 3-4 weeks before arrival — through the muShanghai visa assistance form.
Do I need travel insurance?
Travel insurance is not required for entry into China, but it is strongly recommended. Medical care in China is affordable compared to the US, but insurance gives you peace of mind for emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost luggage.
What about the 24-hour police registration?
All foreigners in China must register with local police within 24 hours of arrival at each new city. If you stay at a hotel, they handle this automatically at check-in. If you stay in a private apartment, you need to visit the local police station. The muShanghai team assists with registration for all attendees.
