Editorial standards

Original reporting

Our core material comes from being there: factory visits, conferences, and interviews across China. Data-driven pieces draw on company filings, investor relations releases, official statistics, and peer-reviewed research, linked in the article.

Interviews and consent

People we quote by name know they are speaking to a publication. Private conversations stay private unless the person agrees to be quoted. We do not pay sources for interviews. Where a company has reviewed an article for factual accuracy before publication, the article says so.

Independence

First Foreigner is self-funded by its publisher and carries no sponsored content. If that ever changes, paid material will be clearly labeled. Companies we cover do not decide what we publish. The editor runs other businesses; where an article touches a company he has a financial stake in, the article discloses it.

How we work

We use AI tools for transcription, research, and drafting. Every article is reported, verified, and edited by a human, and some articles include a note on how they were made.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix the article, note what changed, and show the update date. Spotted an error? Write to editor@firstforeigner.com and we will review it promptly.

Tips

We welcome story tips on Chinese companies, cross-border deals, and health care in Asia, at the same address. If you want to share something in confidence, say so in your first message and we will agree on a secure channel before you send anything sensitive.
